France warns of need for detail on Kampala deal

France has welcomed Sunday's ceasefire and disengagement agreement among DRC's warring parties, but cautioned that more details of the deal are needed to make sure it is in line with Security Council resolutions authorising the full deployment of the UN Observer Mission in the DRC (MONUC). A statement from the French foreign ministry said it was incumbent upon the office of the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan to make sure the deal reached by the Political Committee and the Joint Military Commission (JMC) in Kampala "responds to the conditions laid down by the Security Council in resolution 1291," which authorised the UN mission.
