Shattered Lives: Nepal Earthquake

Our coverage of the powerful earthquakes that struck Nepal in April and May 2015: the needs, the response, and the legacy.

On 25 April 2015, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck Nepal’s mountainous Gorkha District. This was followed by a magnitude-7.3 earthquake in May.

Together, the earthquakes and aftershocks killed thousands across the country and devastated large parts of the capital, Kathmandu. International aid and relief teams descended on Nepal, but the process of rebuilding shattered lives is expected to last years.
