معدلات عمالة الأطفال في آسيا والمحيط الهادئ "تنذر بالخطر" - منظمة العمل الدولية

ينخرط 48 مليون طفل في منطقة آسيا والمحيط الهادئ في أعمال خطرة من بين 115 مليون طفل على مستوى العالم، وفقاً لتقرير صدر مؤخراً عن منظمة العمل الدولية.

وأخبر سيمرين سينغ، مسؤول عمالة الأطفال لمنطقة آسيا وجنوب شرق آسيا والمحيط الهادئ في منظمة العمل الدولية لشبكة الأنباء الإنسانية (إيرين) أن "العدد مرتفع بشكل ينذر بالخطر".

ومعظم الأطفال يعملون في مجال الزراعة، بما في ذلك صيد الأسماك. وقال التقرير أن أجساد الأطفال تمتص ضعف المواد الكيميائية السامة كمبيدات الآفات التي تمتصها أجساد البالغين عند التعرض لنفس الكمية، كما أنهم أكثر عرضة للإصابة أو الموت بسبب المخاطر المتواجدة في أماكن العمل.

وأضاف سينغ أن "الطبيعة الخفية لعمالة الأطفال في الاقتصاد غير الرسمي تعني أن مفتشي العمل لا يستطيعون دائماً الوصول إليهم" واصفاً الفقر بأنه "عامل دفع" رئيسي لهذه الظاهرة.
