27-year-old Huda received two winter clothing sets for her children. Huda’s family fled Deir-ez-Zor 3 months ago, and they sought safety in Areesheh camp.
“I will dress my children these clothes today to play with friends outdoors without fearing the cold,” says Huda.UNICEF distributed 8,300 winterization kits in Areesheh make-shift camp in north-eastern Syria, where more than 25,000 internally displaced people live. Half of them are estimated to be children.
Each kit contains a hat, gloves, a scarf, a winter jacket, cotton sweaters, trousers, a set of underwear, stockings, and shoes. Children aged one month to 14 years received these kits to protect from the harsh winter conditions.
UNICEF is providing 151,000 internally displaced children under the age of 14 with sets of winter clothes in addition to 50,000 blankets to families displaced in the north-eastern governorates of Ar-Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor and Al-Hasakeh where winter conditions can be extremely challenging for families living in rudimentary conditions.
Most families in these camps have little financial means to provide for their children’s winter needs. They lack heaters, heating fuel, blankets, mattresses and warm clothes.
